CHICQUITA is a maiden no more after overcoming her wayward tendencies to land the Darley Irish Oaks by half a length.
Despite having not won on any of her previous three starts, the Alain de Royer-Dupre-trained filly was only sent off a 9-2 chance for this race as she has been unlucky on both her outings this year
Two runs ago she plunged into a hedge at Saint-Cloud when looking destined for a win before coming up against the smart Treve in the Prix de Diane last time...........

ST NICHOLAS ABBEY will undergo surgery on Wednesday morning in an attempt to safe his life after the multiple Group 1 winner suffered a career-ending injury on Tuesday.
The six-year-old suffered a fractured pastern during a routine piece of work at Ballydoyle on Tuesday morning as he was going through his final preparation for Saturday's King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot, a race for which Europe's all-time leading money-earner had been expected to be favourite.
Coolmore Stud tweeted: "St Nicholas Abbey suffered a serious career ending injury at Ballydoyle this morning, vets are currently attending to him.
"We hope to save him for a career at stud."............"

OUTSTANDING racehorse and world champion Sea The Stars is off the mark as a sire courtesy of Stars Over The Sea who broke his maiden on the third time of asking at Ayr of Monday.
The Mark Johnston-trained juvenile travelled well during the 7f race and powered clear in the straight to run out an easy winner.
Stars Over The Sea, who runs in the colours of leading owner Roger Brookhouse, was bought by Johnston at the Keeneland September yearling sale last year for $55,000, a reasonable price considering his heritage.He is a half-brother to five winners, including Gorella, who landed the Grade 1 Beverley D Stakes in the US for Patrick Biancone, as well as French Listed winner Porto Santo and descends from a family that includes Prix de Diane heroine Crepellana............"

Lange musste sich die Rennsport-Welt in Geduld üben. Doch jetzt herrscht endlich Klarheit, wer nun der erste Partner der australischen Weltklasse-Sprinterin Black Caviar (Foto) sein wird. Es wird der Darley-Stallion Exceed and Excel sein, der in diesem Jahr wahrscheinlich zum Champion-Deckhengst auf dem fünften Kontinent gekürt wird.

Das Rendezvous lassen sich die Besitzer der Bel Esprit-Tochter 88.000 Australische Dollar (rund 61.600 Euro) kosten. Exceed and Excell steht auf Darleys Kelvinside Farm im Hunter Valley in New South Wales.

Nachkommen von Exceed and Excel, einem Danehill-Sohn, galoppierten in diesem Jahr bereits eine Gewinnsumme von 11,2 Millionen Australischen Dollar (rund 7,8 Millionen Euro) ein.

ST NICHOLAS ABBEY has come through a lengthy surgury to fuse his pastern and is recuperating in intensive care at John Halley's Fethard Equine Hospital.
He faces a long recovery but on Thursday morning was described as comfortable.

St Nicholas Abbey update


After a lengthy surgery to fuse the pastern St Nicholas Abbey is recuperating in intensive care at John Halley’s Fethard Equine Hospital.
Surgery was carried out at Fethard Equine Hospital in consultation with Dr Dean Richardson, Head of Surgery at New Bolton Centre Pennsylvania, along with Ger Kelly and Tom O’Brien.
St Nicholas Abbey will remain in intensive care for some time and has many bridges to cross before he is considered out of danger.
This morning he is well and comfortable and back enjoying his hay!
We are lucky he is so fit and has a marvellous attitude and temperament which will be vital for his long recovery.

GODOLPHIN have come in for stern criticism from the BHA for 'significant' failings in management and process at their powerful Newmarket stables in a report into the anabolic steroid doping scandal perpetrated by their former trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni.................
