A CLOSE relation to world champion sprinter Black Caviar topped proceedings during day one of the Inglis Melbourne August Thoroughbred sale when selling for A$205,000 to an Irish-based buyer.
Belleluia, a daughter of Black Caviar's sire Bel Esprit, is out of the Desert Sun mare Song Of The Sun, whose half-sister Scandinavia is the second dam of trainer Peter Moody's 25-time winner.
Offered by Eliza Park International, who stand Bel Esprit after buying the business earlier this year, Belleluia is almost A$100,000 more expensive than her relation Helsinge, the dam of Black Caviar.
Helsinge, who cost breeder Rick Jamieson A$115,000 at the Inglis Australian Easter Broodmare Sale, has repaid that investment dozens of times over following the A$210,000 sale of Black Caviar, A$75,000 collected for Black Caviar's brother Moshe, A$1,025,000 for future multiple Group 1 winner All Too Hard, A$2,600,000 recouped from a Redoute's Choice filly and a record-breaking A$5,000,000 for last year's Redoute's Choice yearling colt.
At the close of play on day one, 110 broodmares and fillies off the track netted a total of A$879,900 for an average of A$8,163 and median of A$1,250.
