Updated 29Mar14 von hier: http://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com...TOKEN=63323033 CONSTITUTION remains perfect and picks up his first graded stake win in as many attempts in the GI Besilu Stables Florida Derby. The bay overcame a slow break to charge up and take them home in an impressive debut that earned him “TDN Rising Star” status in Hallendale Jan. 11 and won a fully loaded 1 1/16-mile optional claimer here last time Feb. 22. Sent off at 3-1 for this class hike, Constitution was a bit headstrong early while tracking from fourth. Meanwhile, GII Fountain of Youth S. hero Wildcat Red dueled nemesis General a Rod through soft early splits of :24.01 and :48.19. Saving all the ground, Constitution broke through when the rail opened in the stretch and dueled Wildcat Red all the way to the wire. He gamely bested that rival by a head and stopped the clock for the 1 1/8 miles in 1:49.16. General a Rod stayed on for third and heavily favored Cairo Prince (Pioneerof the Nile) took fourth.
