In a work trainer Shug McGaughey called “freaky,” Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) winner Orb sizzled a half-mile in :47 1/5 at Belmont Park May 13 in preparation for the May 18 Preakness Stakes (gr. I) at Pimlico Race Course.
The son of Malibu Moon came home his final quarter-mile in :22 4/5 under exercise rider Jennifer Patterson and galloped out five furlongs in :59 1/5.

Das alles zeigt ,wie der Derby-Sieger hier in USA ins Blickfeld der Oeffentlichkeit gestellt wird.

So gesehen ist natuerlich auch die schnelle Folge der Klassischen Rennen ein Vorteil ( dieses Wochende schon der naechste Klassiker,dann 3 Wochen bis zu den Belmont ) - ich selbst mag das englische und deutsche System weitaus lieber.

Aber dem" Kurz-Zeit-Gehirn" der Oeffentlichkeit ,das morgen schon wieder einen neuen "hype and hero" braucht ,kommt das american system entgegen.

Fabre confirms exciting Ocovango for Derby

ANDRE FABRE has confirmed that Ocovango will attempt to emulate his 2011 Investec Derby winner Pour Moi and take his chance at Epsom on June 1 when he will be ridden by jockey Pierre-Charles Boudot.
Although a relative unknown to many racing fans in Britain, Boudot sits third in the jockeys' table in France having ridden 38 winners this year. Only Maxime Guyon and Christophe Soumillon have recorded more successes in France this season.
"He'll go to England and Pierre-Charles Boudot will ride him," said Fabre on Monday afternoon.
Prince Faisal's colt extended his unbeaten run to three with a half- length success over Bravodino in the Prix Greffulhe at Saint-Cloud last month, the same prep which Fabre used with Pour Moi.
And in another move which mirrors the build-up to that success two years ago Fabre will use the Breakfast with the Stars press event next week to familiarize horse and jockey with Epsom's unique contours.
"We'll do the same thing again with Ocovango and the jockey will come over too," said the 24-time French champion trainer.
Dawn Approach is as short as 6-4 with favourite with bookmakers, although trainer Jim Bolger has admitted that his Qipco 2,000 Guineas winner is not guaranteed to stay 1m4f on pedigree.
Fabre has had to weigh a similar lack of assured fortitude in the parentage of

Ocovango, who is by a stamina influence in

Monsun,

but is the first foal of Crystal Maze who hails from a family which thrived at around a mile.
