    American colt of German bloodlines

    Hello,
I do not know if an American will be welcome to post here, but I am hoping to find that German horse breeders will be willing to chat with me.
I have a mare that was bred by Franz Kotschofsky and at some point imported to America. She is by Zeus and out of Goldwalzer who was by Goldstern. She's 18 years old now, but she is an amazing mare.
I bred her to Escapade who was also imported from Germany to America. He is by Escudo and out of Gesa by Graf Grannus. This colt produced by this cross is really fantastic... he has four very tall white stockings and I think that he is very well built. I put a video on youtube-

What I am wondering is, with our dollar being to poor right now it would be inexpensive for someone from Europe to buy and import this colt, but I don't know if that is done very often.... or if this colt would be marketable over there. Would you be willing to offer some advice?

My private E-mail is: SunFireFarm@Gmail.com if you would like to contact me personally.

    Thank you for your help!!

    Hello!

Well I´m not a breeder, just a rider. I think the chances of getting a buyer from Europe/ Germany are rare. The market in germany is full of colts; there are "in" sires such as contender, cassini from the jumping fraction and rubinstein, sandro hit etc from the dressage fraction. These colts are sold very fast, but the others... A lot of breeders complain that it`s difficult at this time to sell a colt..

Actually, I think your chances are bigger in the states.

Zeus offsprings are great jumpers, but also very difficult in riding, not horses for everybody.

    greetings from germany!

      @SunFireFarmUSA:

it is a little bit funny that you want to sell a colt with a German pedigree here in Germany. The German breeders want to sell their colts to USA.

For the moment the German market for fillies ist not so easy. One of the reasons is that we have lost (for the moment) the buyers of the USA because of the very expensive Euro for foreign clients.

Nevertheless you are welcome here to chat with us.
To look beyond our own nose is always a reason for a good discussion

I'm not sure. Shopping for Hanoverians in the US not something Europeans generally have on their list of 'possible options' and provided there are around 7000 colts born in this country every year I assume he would have a hard time selling especially when his ancestors aren't resident here. We tend to forget about exported individuals unless they come back here or show internationally and thus keep the memory alive.
That being said if you want to give it a try I would recommend putting him up in one of the bigger advertising bulletins such as http://www.pferdemarkt.de or http://www.ehorses.de Maybe it's worth the try?

          Thankyou!

I appreciate the advice. Our economy has made it difficult to sell colts here as well. Its a shame, a few years ago he would have been sold before he was born.... but I suppose we caused the problem ourselves. >sigh<
I bred the mare back to a horse named Landwerder, who is a full brother to Landor S. I am hoping that by following the patterns of German breeders I can produce similar quality. The American buyers tend to follow trends, but there should always be a market for proven bloodlines (I hope). I just have a few horses and a small farm, which gives me the opportunity to be more selective, and hopefully allow my foals to be competitive.
I am hoping that one day my daughter will be showing one of our foals.... although she's more interested in Dinosaurs that horses right now. LOL

In one of the other posts it was mentioned that Zeus produced horses that were difficult for novice riders and I have read that in other places as well.... but my mare (by Zeus) is really wonderful. She is a gentle giant, kind and willing. I know that she has a full sister still in Germany that was a successful international grand prix jumper, but I don't know that mares name or who rode her. I do wonder if they were less manageable as young horses, or if perhaps the Dam removed some fire from Zeus's blood when they were crossed. I suppose thats one of the draw backs to owning a horse that was bred so far away.... I'll probably never know.

Thank You again for the advice!

Have you considered contacting the stallion owner or even one of the notorious jumper sale operations such as Schockemöhle? If your colt's maternal aunt is jumping around internationally it might be worth the effort. I'm afraid most jumper folk aren't into buying this young but what about some of the high-scale breeders on your N.A. end. Thinking Ron Southern or Edgar Schütte. Phil Henning if he can be motivated? He has been known to shop young in the past before he started to try homemade on a bigger scale...
They certainly have an eye out for quality and with the current exchange rate should be way more motivated to snatch up something on the continent rather than abroad? I just don't think you'll get enough interest here if your boy's lineage isn't flavor of the month so to speak. It doesn't even have anything to do with quality. The problem will already be to get someone out looking at him.
Can you keep and promote him for another 4-5 years? If he is brought along well and up and running it'll be much easier to get interested buyers out no matter where you are. It's not like these jumpers aren't sought after it's just that nobody except a handful of people will buy them for significant money when they are weanlings unless they are bred 'flavor of the month' (thinking Cornet O., Cassini, Quidam those big modern names etc).

              Good Advice!

I will defiantly follow up on your ideas! This colt was *supposed* to be a filly. The mare is 18 now, so I am working on replacing her. Since he is a colt, he is for sale.... but I know the value of hanging on to a young horse until they are in the show ring. I don't have a lot of land (6 acres) but if he doesn't sell I will happily hang on to him until he is showing his potential.
I wish the stallion owner would take his sire to the jumper ring..... she's showing him in the hunter shows, which is big money here but a waste of good bloodlines in my opinion. I bred to him because I liked the Zeus/Gottard/Escudo/Grannus combination and the stallion is local and VERY handsome.... but he'll never make his mark as a warmblood stallion if she keeps him in the "pony" classes.
Again, Thank You for the excellent ideas... I think I'll put together a video once my colt has been through inspection and send a few out to the big names.

Do you happen to know what Landor S's stud fee is?
